Department of Zoology

The Department of Zoology in accordance with its institutional aim of producing intellectually well trained, morally upright, socially committed and spiritually enlightened young men and women, was instrumental in finding out and bringing up the creative talents of our society. The Department witnessed creative and productive activities, which helped not only the society in finding out novel and sustainable means of livelihood but also the higher education scenario in giving new dimension to the educational process in the rural background..

Department History

Department of Zoology had its origin in 1968, with the commencement of graduate courses in the subject. With upgrading of the college in 1968, along with other UG programmes in Zoology was also started with botany and chemistry as subsidiary courses. The first batch of students was presented for the final year university exam during March 1971.

<p> </p> <p><strong>Dr. Aleyamma Kuruvilla-Awarded Ph.D from </strong>Mahatma Gandhi University during 2013 in “Studies of Human cataract prevalence in the southern district of Kerala state- A statistical and histological approach” under the guidance of Dr. Issac Thomas in St. Berchmans  College, Chenganacherry.</p> <p><strong> Dr. R Aruna Devy</strong> got <strong>young scientist</strong> award from the National academy for Environmental Society (NESA) in 2000.</p> <p>Awarded Ph. D from Pondicherry university in heavy metal (Cd and Pb) in agricultural  and industrial areas of Pondicherry region (India) – their histopathological and biochemical impacts on adult albino rats during 2003.</p> <p><strong>Dr. Sreejaya R</strong> awarded Ph. D during 2010 from CENTRAL MARINE FISHERIES RESEARCH INSTITUTE, COCHIN,   MANGALORE UNIVERSITY.</p>
