St. Thomas College, Ranni, is a Higher Education Institution owned and managed by St. Thomas Valiyapally, Ranni, a parish church of Syrian Knanaya Archdiocese (a Christian Minority Community). Ever since the inception in 1964, the institution, as its founders envisioned, has been able to meet the educational needs of the society. The college has always adhered to its vision of partaking in the nation building process by providing holistic and quality education to all students, especially those from rural background and deprived sections of the society. Priority is given to academic excellence through research and professional competence. By including the values of social commitment and patriotism among the students, through value based education , well balanced personalities can be produced.

Keeping in view the motto of the college “to strive, to learn, to transform”, the institution has incessantly endeavored to invest its utmost for achieving excellence in the field of education.

The alumni of the college spread across the world – include Scientists, Technocrats, Medical Professional, Academicians, Social Workers, Members of Legislative Assembly, Bank Officials, Police Officials, Advocates, Business Men, Local Self-Government Officials etc. It has also produced Administrators, Politicians and Entrepreneurs.

Begun as a junior college and later upgraded as a first grade college in 1968, the college has grown phenomenally over the years. It now offers 9 UG and 4 PG programmes. It provides ample opportunities to the students, which are otherwise inaccessible to the majority of students in the college who are hailing from rural and poor background, to chisel their capabilities and prove their mettle in various national, state, local and regional levels of platforms. The college, also, through its varied projects, makes the students engage in activities catering to the needs of the society and nature we are part of, thus spreading the message that education is incomplete without a sense of responsibility for the fellow beings and the biota.

The college celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2014 in a befitting manner and is planning to celebrate Diamond Jubilee as well in 2024. The college management along with the members of the faculty and the administration staff are always working in harmony to enable this institution scale greater heights in the field of education.
